Little Green Street off Highgate Road in Kentish Town is one of only a few intact Georgian streets in London.
Most of the dozen houses were built in the 1780s, are Grade ll listed, and both survived the Blitz and more than two hundred years of wear and tear from the generations who have raised their children in the narrow cobbled terrace.
The street, only 2.5m wide has been under a very real threat of being turned into a truck route which would see a vehicle pass within inches of the front doors of these homes every three minutes, all day every day for up to four years down this delicate cul-de-sac.
Why 'has been'? The developer's constructional (sic) methodology statement has been rejected, but the developers have appealed to the planning inspectorate to be allowed to tear up the street and run trucks down in every few minutes for the next four years. Incredibly, they might win. You can help. Read the blog and send your note saying 'No'. Letters have to be there by Thursday 12 June. We expect a decision in early July.

Today's wannabe developers arrived in a four-wheel drive vehicle (presumably to negotiate the beastly cobbles the owners of the old railway club want to tear up ibid.) It was a Porsche Cayenne*. Oh, the irony! Not cheap, but with the houses estimated to have to retail for a million plus, we wouldn't expect them to be. I can only hope there will be enough headroom in the underground carpark...)
*A tight squeeze - the body is 2m wide and LGS is only 2.5m. And that's just A CAR!
