Daytime viewing, anyone?

Tom Conti, the people's hero and noted actor, etc, was on 'This Morning' with Philip Schofield and Fern Britton this, er morning, pointedly not talking about his new film (which is very good, I am sure) but about 'Phase 2 of the fight' ie the appeal to hack up Little Green Street. Bravo. Give that man an Oscar. There's bound to be one living around here, somewhere.

It is amazing to the Yanks in the room that a street like this could surive the years of modern building and "progress" that has been happening around it. What's even more amazing is that there would even be a question about further preserving it's existence by turning it into a national park or historic landmark.

We struggle to retain buildings and places that are typically in the 90 to 150 year range in the U.S. (by Brit's standards, almost brand new). However, we seem to do a pretty decent job of creating zones where you would never allow such development to take place if fit meant possilbly sacraficing this sort of history and robbing futre generations of the opportunity to experience it.

Would you allow the same sort of heavy machinary to move through the gates of Buckingham Palace for the next 3-4 years? Or rumbling past the Albert Memorial? The Tower of Lonon? Through Trafalgar square?

Save the street and save your integrity, London. Sacrafice the street and you willfully look an 'endangered species' in the eye and say, "Screw you; I'm gonna make a buck (or pound, as it were).

Good luck to you. Save Little Green Street!
